Artistic experience

 

• Teaching children at the Nola Hatterman Art Academy, children aged six to twelve years old (1990 - 1992) students aged thirteen and up (1992 – till now)
• Two years experience at the secondary schools: Dennertschool & Johannes Vrolijkschool
• Holiday workshop in different centers in the country
• Since 1993 I have been a member of ‘Art 2000’ an organization for young Surinamese artists
• In 1994 a calendar was published with my work which was distributed nation wide
• Murals in different places in Suriname / Paramaribo (Diaconessenziekenhuis, NGVB stadium & Bersaba)
• The cultural centres of the Inter – American Development Bank of Washington
• The Edna Manley School for Visual and Performing Arts in Jamaica (diploma) study tour, the Netherlands, America and Africa in June 2002 – September 2002 (exhibition)
• September 2002 silkscreen printing with Art Lease (Utrecht)
• September 2005 start working and the opening of Atelier Struikelblok
• In 2005 starting with the Tip Tip Landart installation
• Constructed the exhibition Zichtbaar of De Surinaamsche Bank
• In 2006, a calendar with my work was published by Vensur Suriname
• In 2007, designed and constructed the exhibition Talent of The Centrale Bank of Suriname
• In 2007, Artist in Residence in Atelier Duende in Rotterdam, the Netherlands
• Visited several exhibitions (2007) in Germany (Documenta 12 & Skulpter Projecte Münster) and Italy; La Biennale di Venezia (Esposozione Internazionale d’Arte)
• In collaboration with the FVAS and Atelier Struikelblok, the making and design of the Lichtjesmonument in Lelydorp, Wanica (2007)
• In 2008, Artist in Residence at Rijksakademie, Amsterdam (research project in art in public space and landart)
• In March 2010, won and received theoneminute Tommy – Award in Shanghai – China. Title of the film is ‘Portretten van Paramaribo’. 
• In 2011 artist in residence at Vermont Studio Center, Vermont, USA
• Introduction 3D performance in the solo exhibition ‘Lob’ mi tu tamara’ march 2011
• Group exhibition ‘About Change’ in Washington D.C. at the Worldbank in 2012
• Since October 2013 Chairman of the FVAS - Federation of Visual Artists in Suriname
• Judge at the Guyana Art Competition and Exhibition in 2014 in Georgetown - Guyana

Awards

 

2010:

• Received the Tommy award for winning of the one minutes awards 2009/ category South America for the short film Portretten van Paramaribo. The award ceremonies were held in the Dutch culture center in Shanghai on 19 March 2010
• At the second Surinamese Folklore Fashion Show in 2010 me and fashion designer Janelle Oosterling won first prize for the design which incorporated prints from my art.
